Changing diet
I'm currently feeding my lovebird millet seeds mixed with Kaytee pellets. The problem is he hates the pellets. I followed the instructions to change his food slowly, but it's not working. I've found that what he does is pick out the pellets and throw them on the floor, while he is searching for the millet seeds. And when there are no more, he'll keep screeching at the food bowl until I fill it with seeds again.
At first I thought he might be eating a little bit of pellets, but my bf is affirmative that he didn't. And the cage floor is alwiz littered with pellets. ![]() |

older birds are usually harder to convert to a all pellet diet. reduce the amount of seeds and increase the amount of pellets gradually, 1 tip is to actually seperate the pellets from the seeds by using 1 cup for each, reduce the seeds and increase the pellets appropriately(converting is a better word for starving anyway). Although, not always a pellet diet is good for the bird.

Okie... Like that I muz buy another cup for him. He really hates it I think. Cos really, he screeches forever once the seeds are gone.
My bf also say maybe starve him a bit to make him eat it, but I disagreed with him cos I'm thinking that birds are so light liao, don't starve them. |

Hi Clover,
How is the bird now? Besided pellet, do you try to train them to eat variety of food?... sometimes I found that if we train birds to eat variety of food - they tend to try any food that we provide ... but in the end they will take the one that they like more ![]() |
