This is a nice fish. It is hard to tell exactly how nice since I cannot see a sideview and under the tail pics. From t he topview it looks like it has a very nice tail, a strong and broad body and a nice deep head. I am not sure if the edge of the tail has a kink in it or not, it could be just the picture. This does not seem to be a fully grown fish, yet, so I think that you still can improve on this fish. However, the head growth seems to be a major part that needs work. With such a strong body if the head does not match, then the balance of the fish will be a bit off. Another thing is that this fish is very skinny and need to gain a bit of weight. You should consider putting this fish in a bowl by itself, or in a bigger space so that you can improve the size of the head and increase the feeding regiment. With a proper caretaking and a bit of work, this fish can improve towards being a show fish, I think. HOpe that this helps a bit.

Thank you for the constructive comments.Yes,the head growth is what i'm trying to groom now.Do you have any tips how to improve it besides genetics.I have been feeding live red worms and ranchu lord pellets now.This fish has now gain in bulk in body mass but head still need major improvement.
It also is now kept in a 3 x 2 feet blue tub all by itself with a little water current for it to swim & exercise.

You are already doing great things. Remember that you should not feed too much ever. The fish must finish all the food in 5 minutes. Then you feed every 4 hours as much as possible, even at night. Turn the light on before feeding, and leave the light on for at least 20 minutes afterward. One big caution is that you should not over feed with pellet food, ever. This is a sure way to invite problem with ranchu bladder.

How about feeding your fish with just red worm at every feeding. Furthermore, add some sort of vegetable to the diet,either duck weed, spirulina or any form of algae to the diet, it will ensure that your fish will have better pigment. Please be advised that this will have to be a long term regiment in order for it to work properly, ok.

You should also study up on how to use bio enzymes which will help prolong the quality of your water as well. It will treat the ammonia and nitrate in your pond so you do not have to change the water too many time. (try to keep the environment as stable as long as possible) I also recommend that you use sponge filter in your pond (which you should also squeezed to clean regularly every day). Live feed will make the waste particles much smaller and the sponge filter will be excellent to treat this condition. To keep the water filled with too much of the wastes will invite trouble with the gills of your ranchu. Hope that this is helpful.

Thanx Pat for the tips.Am sure learning better how to keep a ranchu.Hopefully i can post you a pic of this ranchu in months to come for you to judge it's developments.

You are very welcome, one more thing that I forgot to stress to you (and every one), for ranchu that are bigger than 13 cms, it is quite ok, to keep them in deeper water. I keep mine at 45cm. More exercise to swim up and down and the fish's tail will develop to be more firm. Good luck and keep up the good work.

If possible u can adjust and strenghten the current from time to time for periods of half hour to excersize it further...
cant really see clearly through this pics but nice backbone.... overall nice fish... good luck in grooming.
