Sick parrots sit fluffed and listless on their perches or, if an illness has progressed to a serious stage, on the bottom of the cage. A parrot with pneumonia or other serious condition may make a barely audible wheezing sound when it breathes, sneeze frequently, or have a nasal discharge. Its singing or speaking voice may sound different.
Birds, being prey animals, are more capable than other creatures at hiding illness to avoid appearing vulnerable to predators. It pays to watch closely for any change in your parrot's behaviour in order to nip illnesses in the bud. Once far along enough to be noticed, respiratory infections in particular can kill quickly. Do not wait even a day to see if your bird's condition improves. If your parrot seems ill, call your vet immediately and follow his or her instructions. The vet probably will want to see your bird right away.

Hi leongfk,
Any update about the bird? In addition to Silvanus tips, I think you can also observe if the bird have this for long period of time or only in that hour... If long period of time, you may call the vet and ask for help, however, if only in that hour only (only 5 - 6 times) then stop, I think he will be okay. (but if you didn't feel right - do bring him to vet immediately) Bird is actually sensitive especially to dusk or smoke, sometime it may cause the bird to sneeze. You may also take extra carefull with 'fungi', because sometimes it can kill bird in very shot time. |

Hi Silvanus and Tanin,
Thank for your prompt reply. I handle it about an hour early in the morning and only a few minutes in the evening. Can't reallly tell whether it sneeze during other time of the day. It has been sneezing like that for more then a few months which I just overlook it. One good news is the it does not fluffed and listless on their perches. It is always swinging and playing rough. Eating well as well and no weight lost, so I guess it is still in good health. Once again thank for the advices, I will monitor it condition and send him to the vet when time permit. |
