growth on hammie

hi guys.. my hammie suddenly sprouted a growth just below its ear. any idea what it is? the fur seems to have dropped off the growth.. so its a pinkish lump. appeared suddenly. do you recommend i take it to the vet? what can the vet do?

I would recomend you go to the vet to get it removed. However, be warned that the costs may be high. This depends on what sort of lump this is.
Is the lump soft or hard? Can it move about or is it stuck to the spot?

But, if the lump doesn't grow any bigger and does not seem to cause your hammie any pain, I would just leave it alone as getting the vet to remove it may be too stressful for your hamster.

i agree about the stress.. poor thing.. so small already have to go for op.. we decided to leave it be for the time being.. and see how it turns out. besides she really has run the course of her life.. she is abt 3 yrs now..

instead of going to the vet to have the lump removed, i suggest you go to the vet to have the lump checked if it is cancerous.

btw, is the lump an abscess? You shld get it checked out to find out what it is..I remember reading the it is quite common for the lumps in hamsters and mice to be cancerous..But, i can't remember where i read this from...

i would take it to the vet immediately. how is yr hamster now? have you taken it to the vet?

Mine was in the same situation as urs, except its lump was under its body. My sister and I never noticed it, cause Bijou was sooo active, always running up and down, and the lump was underneath it, so we never saw it, until we were were going for a holiday and had to pass her to my aunt. Bijou lived for only 2 more weeks I suggest that you leave your hamster be, cause surgery could cause some trauma to the poor hammie.

I have a hamster that have lump also but then it heal on its own...think it's swollen at the milk teat while milking the babies...
