Hi all,
Would like to find out whether you guys allow your chinchilla to roam freely in the house/room (of course after closing all doors/windows and with owner presence/supervision) ? The aunty at Park Chin recommends strongly not to let the chinchilla free from your hand as it will become naughty once it touches the floor and gets a taste of freedom. Any recommended practise to share ? Also, if you let it roam in the room, how do you stop it biting on cables etc ? Thanks and hope to hear from you all. |

Im nt sure abt others bt i do allow my chins to roam around freely in the evenings, with constant supervision of either me or my hubby. U gotta make sure that there are no loose wirings or any other things tat might encourage their biting habits further.
Limit their roaming periods to a max of 30 mins, depending on the body temperature of ur chins. Once u feel that they might feel slightly warm, put them back into the cage. This is good and much needed exercise for them. Actually alot of people might nt agree with this particular statement of mine "Chins originate from the wild and we humans are the one that is being overly-concerned with their well-being and label them as a difficult pet to manage. But we forgot the fact that they are also animals that are found in the wild in certain countries and have thrived on their own without us humans to take care of them. They are most capable of managing themselves and taking care of themselves very well." This fact we should always remember. Animals are happiest when they are free to do what they want. But after stating this, i also believe that since we have regarded them as part of our family, we must always pay much attention to their needs and we-being. They have been domesticated, thus they are used to being dependant on humans. In other words, they have been pampered so much coz we love them tremendously that they have gotten used to being taken care of by others...hehe I feel like as though im writing an essay, hehe, so i better stop here. Sorry if i've bored u to death with my long-windednesss......thanks! |

Pls dun use this if u do not house ur chins in an aircon environment. They'd probably overheat. I don't think many of us use this as well, some just prefer to let them have their runs in a chin-proof room. Hope this helps.

Play cage
I actually use a play cage which is bigger and has the flying saucer wheel,..instead of letting them roam about the room.
