Feeding Your New Born Ranchu Hatchlings

Today I would like to cover the feeding of the ranchu hatchlings once that you have successfully hatched your ranchu. As they hatch the hatchling will have an egg sack which they will be able to live on for the first few days. But after that the hatching will need to eat, or else they will never develop to become a proper ranchu. The perfect food for hatchlings at this size (pin heads) are newly hatch artemia.

You can tell when it is time to start feeding your ranchu friar is when they all start to float up and started to look around for food. Then, you should start feeding immediately. You could tell when the hatchlings started to eat as you will be able to see them get bigger right away.

The following are pictures of Mr. Kashino preparing the artemia, and the feeding after the preparation. Mr.Kashino will also show the thermometer to show the ideal temperature for both the hatching time of the ranchu eggs and also for the prepartion of the artemia. Most of the artemia eggs will come with instruction of how to prepare the water for the hatching of the artemia eggs. It is advisable here for any one to try to use the best possible artimia eggs with the highest counts, and not too old for best results. Shop around before you decide to buy. There are quite a lot of cheaper brand in the market but the effectiveness of hatching will depend mainly on the quaulity of the eggs you decide to buy.

The pictures of Mr.Kashino's hatchin of artemia and feeding to the newly born ranchu are self explanatory. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line.

The first few pictures will be of the ranchu hatching and then will be the serie on the preparation of the artemia, and then the application by Mr.Kashino.

Feeding Your New Born Ranchu Hatchlings

Here is the second thread on feeding your ranchu hatchlings. You will see the artemia that's been hatched by Mr.Kashino. You will find that the artemia hatchlings will sink towards the bottom of the container. Many people in Thailand will put black taps all over the container and leave only the bottom open, and the bottom of the container will have an opening to funnel out the artemia. The hatched artemia will be gathering at the opening where the light comes in. Then all you need to do is open the funnel at the bottom and drain out the live artemia. The egg shells and the unhatched eggs will float to the top of the container and can be discarded. Here you will see that Mr.Kashino drain the artemia out manually with a small hose.

Feeding Your New Born Ranchu Hatchlings

Now you will see Mr.Kashino feeding the new hatchling with the artemia. You will have to be doing this for two to three weeks, until your ranchu hatchlings are big enough for the other food. In Thailand Daphnia is readily available and the friars after one or two weeks will graduate to Daphnia. The cost of the artemia is quite costly in most places but they are truely necessary for the proper development of the ranchu hatchlings.

We would like to once again thank your Mr.Kashino for the kind information. This series of pictures were first posted at the Ranchushop.com.
