Least Aggressive Parrot

Hi,

I just got some bad experiences with Amazon. Would like to know which breed of parrot (medium size) is least aggressive.

What type of Amazon are you keeping? I don't think aggression in parrot is breed specific or that any particular breed would be less aggressive. You may have better luck with chicks in general but that doesn't guarantee it won't become aggressive as it age. Training plays an important part. Lots of people seems to do alright starting with African Grey chicks. Perhaps you want to conside this breed. Other smaller ones to consider - Quaker, Hahns McCaw, Cockatiel, Ringneck,etc Check with our forum breeders for one.

The least aggressive medium sized parrot that I have seen are hand-raised male Red-tailed Black Cockatoos and they are extremely tame and friendly without any aggression or hostility toward humans.

Dogcom is right! It has to do more with individual birds and socialising them from an early age to people. I have had fearless lovebirds, chicken-hearted Yellow-nape Amazons, "attack" cockatoo and "sucker-punch" African Greys!

Personally, for companionship I like African Greys and Eclectus. I have a tame and talking male eclectus who thinks he is a dog and wanders on my living room floor and speaks with an Indian accent and actually moves his head sideways like an Indian dancer!! I also have greys that tell my children "Do homework!"; yell "Quiet!" and will sings "Happy Birthday!", "Maju-lah Singapura", "Old McDonald!" "My bonnie lies over the ocean." "Three blind mice!" etc. But I have some Greys who will only say "Hello." They pick it up mostly from one another.

Bottomline, decide what is it you are looking for in a pet parrot? size, colour, talking-ability, trick performing, tameness/ temperament etc? Then look for that special individual bird!

I had a sun conure and BF zon before but this time I am considering to get a cocatiel which I believe is much more easy to handle.

But will have to seek my wife approval first before looking for one. -HA HA, she was bitten by my parrot before so she is against keep parrot as pet.
