Ranchu Competition with Panel of Japanese All Japan and Thai Judges

(This is a repeat message from yesterday.)

One quick announcement for all of you topview ranchu enthusiast, there will be a big topview ranchu competition organized by the Thailand Ranchu Association with the help of the Japanese Ranchu Associations during the weekend of the 3-4 February 2007. This is really excellent news for all TVR lovers. This is the first time that this kind of event will be staged outside of Japan. The judges for this competition will be comprised of more than ten qualified judges from the Japanese Ranchu Association and two Thai judges. The Show will be on the 4th of February while on the 3rd of February there will be a seminar on topview ranchu for all to participate. The venue for the show will be around the pool area of the Rachamankala Stadium, Hua Mark, Bangkok. The fee for the seminar on the Saturday for walk in will be only 200 baht. If you plan to be in Bangkok during that weekend, it will sure be a great event to attend. This will sure to be the beginning of a new era in ranchu competition for Southeast Asia.

The competition itself will be on Sunday the 4th of February. If you are planning to participlate, we will sure to see each other there since I planned to participate in the Show as well. I am very excited and happy to be able to participate in this kind of event right here in BKK. I have been dreaming about something like this for quite sometime. Personally I am not a member of the organizing commitee or of the association but as a local Thai ranchu breeder, I would like to cordially invite every one to come and participate in this most exciting event. I will sure to post more info asap to help with any one who want to make the trip. All of the best fish in Thailand will sure to make an appearance during this show. I look forward to taking a bunch of pictures of all the lovely fish. It will not be every day that we will have a chance like this.

Enjoy and sawasdee krap.

Competition Today

Hello All,

I have just returned from attending the TV Competition today. It was so much fun. It has been a while since I have spent the whole day at the Show, and it was indeed nice to be back. I enrolled myself in the Ranchu Club that organized the show, and will sure to have more to inform you about future events in due course.

The Show itself was quite a success and I did quite ok in the show which made it even better for myself. I have taken over a thousand pictures, which should keep me in front of the computer for the next few days at least. Any how, I look forward to showing the pics for all member soon. Please stay tune alright. I promise that all the TVR lovers will really love these nice pics of all the Champions.

In the mean time, a hearty congratulation to all our Singaporean members, I heard that the Singaporean National team won the footy match today. My friend told me that it was quite a good match as well. (I was busy with looking at ranchu and missed the match altogether. ) Excellent job and I hope that it brings a lot of happiness to all the Lion's fans. We'll try to do better next time. I think that sports, like fish should bring people closer together, rather than widening the gap, don't you think?

Peace and sawasdee krap.

Topview Ranchu Competition - 4 February 2007

Hello again, it has certainly been a long computer session processing these pictures of the TVR contest held in Bangkok on 4 February 2007. The contest was organized by the Thailand Ranchu Club. The Show was organized at the Rachamankala Stadium on the outskirt of Bangkok. The show itself drew in 160 entries in five classifications namely, Oya (over 16 cms), Nisai (13.5 - 16.0 cms), Tosai (11.5 -13.5 cms) and Small Tosai (less than 1 year old, 10 - 11.5 cms), and Junior (no more than 10cm). However, from what I noticed, there were hardly any small tosai fish at the show.

The fish were all measured by the officials prior to the show for accuracy and the panel of measurement judges did also do a final recheck before the show starts. Even then, I found that the Japanese judges prior to the juding, did disqualify a few more fish due to health concerns. Any fish that has any sort of imperfection no matter how small will be disqualified automatically. The judge will put an "X" on the bowl to signify this fact. (I have taken one picture to show this as well.)

There were 2 round of judging, the first being to classify the fish into A (14-20 points), B (12-13 points), C (10-11 points), and D (1-6 points). The second round of judging is the final placing for each of the Champions. The scores from the first round were thrown out for the second round (exactly the same as the AJRS Show). There were altogether 6 Japanese Judges and 2 Thai judges. The judges were separated in two teams each taking care of 2 divisions. The judges include:

1. Mr. Akira Naitau (Japan Ranchu Society's Judge)
2. Mr. Tatsuo Yatake (Japan Ranchu Society's Judge)
3. Mr. Massahiro Suzaka (Japan Ranchu Society's Judge)
4. Mr. Hisao Kawaguchi (Kannei Ranchu Society's Judge)
5. Mr. Yoshito Yamada (Owari Ranchu Society's President and Judge)
6. Mr. Ryunosuke Hayakawa (Famous breeder from Tokyo)
7. Mr. Chatchai Pornrungroengkul (Thai Judge)
8. Mr. Jatuphol Sunthornwat (Thai Judge)

Each judge has 5 points to give to each of the fish for the first round while the second round the judges will simply put the placing for each of the fish. The actual rules and regulations for the Show are quite numerous. If any member is interested in further details, feel free to drop me a question and I will be more than happy to explain them for you.

Since I have taken quite a lot of pictures, I will break the presentation into a few parts. For today, I will be presenting pictures of the Show starting from the registration process and later on I will continue with the other pics all the way to the final placing for all the champions.

I was fortunate enough to win the prize for Oya No.7 and No.9 respectively, thus you will probably get to see a lot of my fish pictures as well. I managed to get B grade for my Nisai and Tosai, which also made me quite happy. (Just want to warn you ahead of time, since I am very proud of them. ) I have tried to capture all the pics of all the champions, and also most of the fish that participated to show all members. I think that the showing of all the fish that participated will definitely go a long way to prove to those skeptics about the quality of fish bred outside of Japan. You can also breed beautiful fish where ever you are in the world as long as you study up on the standards and breeding and keeping techniques. These beautiful fish should provide ample encouragement for all you experts, and novices breeders out there. Keep up the good work, and I promise you that one day you will surely reach your desired goal.

I will try to commentate as much as possible. Some of the pictures will not be as nice as I want, so please kindly bare with me aight.

Here we go, I hope that you will enjoy the picture show. I will start with the atmosphere of the early morning at the show, and move on from there.

The first two pictures are of the measurement of the entries, then afterwards the participants will head to the registration desk for the formal registration and payment of member ship dues and contest fee. For members it is 300 baht per fish, and for guest it is 400 baht per fish. The Show is open to all to participate.

I would like to continue with pictures of the entries prior to the Show starting. Let's see if you could pick out some of the champions prior to the show. Let's start with the Oya class.
