Just my 1/2 cents.
I think what some of these other people mean is having a venue that lends credience to the speaker and topic. Holding a talk at a public playground seems quite unsophiscated and technically speaking will be an offence under the law as an unlawful gathering in a public place without a permit. And in all other countries with their avicultural and birdkeeping clubs and societies, of which your speaker's landlord was founder and president of the now defunct Singapore Avicultural Society; they all have their club meetings, talks and discussions in a setting like somebody's house or garden where it all seems more appropriate and conducive. |

like silvanus have mentioned, rupert has chosen the location, he does have his reasons.

location is near provision shops so there is easy access to drinks. it is also very near to rupert's place so he can actually bring out most of his birds to show the participants. we will make the arrangement with the relevant authorities about the gathering to make sure everything goes on smoothly.
this is a public sharing of bird keeping knowledge, we are not worried about passer bys or on lookers if they are interested. this also serves as a gathering for the bird keepers to share and gain knowledge. |
