Parrot Training

I was wondering what kind of training do parrot trainers provide? Have anyone used such a service? Or put it another way what kind of training would parrot owners be looking at?

training a bird to "up" and perch on finger, lay on it's back, talk, come to you, do tricks, much like what you train a dog to do, minus the sit and heel.

Yes I know what can be taught but what I wanted to know really is what do the Parrot Trainer actually teach? Have anyone completed such a course?

The other part of the question is what training are parrot owners actually looking for.

those are the things a owner usually look for after the completion of the training. i suppose only the trainers at JBP actually completed any courses relevant to bird training, haven heard of any freelance trainer who had gone through an actual professional course of bird training.

Hi Terrence,
Yes if you read this : http://www.petzcentral.com/dogcom/Parrot%20Training you will see I've trained one my my earlier African Grey quite intensively many years back. I've been asked to train parrots previously but this is really something very new so I do it in a rather informal manner. It seems more and more people are into parrots and also interested in the training aspect. What prompted me to ask those questions is because some of those step-up and handling skills seems too simple for people to even consider lessons but I guess I was wrong. If there really is a demand I would consider doing it in a more structured and formal way.

I am training my cat now. I will train any animal really, and to me the psychology behind it is the same so I conisder myself an animal trainer.
