Parrot only eat sunflower seeds
My yellow crown amazon only feeds on sunflower seeds.
Even though I tried giving him all sorts of other food like nuts, fruits, veg, biscuits, parrot treats, etc, he does not even want to pick up to try the food. I am concern about his nutrition. What can I do to get hm eat other food? Any advise is much appreciated. Thanks. |

Try this out, you can give him all kind of food except sunflower seeds. I'm sure he will pick up something when he's hungry.

Thanks Silvanus, I also thought of this method, but I worry that if there is no sunflower seed, he will go hungry and affect his health.

No worries, I had personally tried this method couple of times when I got recycled parrots that fed on sunflower seeds only.

You may wanna try this...
You may wanna mix the fruits or veg with the sunflower seeds (lesser sunflower seeds) mix well and when he try to pick up the sunflower seed he will indirectly pick up other healthy food and at least taste them. Then you wouldnt have to be worried at least he still have the sunflower seed to keep him going and still try other food when he is hungry. Note: Boiled veg usu more tasty that the raw version i.e corn, carrot, capsicum (yellow/green/red)and there are some veg u need to cook b4 feedng to your parrots i.e. potato (theres 3 types yellow/orange/purple) etc
Btw when u got him was he a baby or adult oredi? For me, my feathered kids love blended food (milkshake texture) so it is very easy for me to blend in all the healthy food and mix in some formula and feed them. Messy feeding time but at least they enjoys the blended vegs n fruits that they usu doesnt feed on on its whole. Try and see how la. Calling out to Noriko Wong... Wanna give your advice? She is very particular in birds' what to eat and how to eat. If we have a forum nutritionist then she is the best fit for the role leow. Sky |

picture specks 1k of word...
Being taught n grilled by a frend on the importance to feed the bird with the good food. And it prove to be more difficult to get them to eat right. My feathered kids hates chunky veg and to solve the problem i would cook n blend up and feed them. So they enjoy eat'g without knowing whats good for them... hehehe
![]() ![]() ![]() Main Menu: Sweetcorn, peas, potato (yellow/orange/puple), carrot, wheat grass, chili, broccolli I would boil n cook all of the above and blend them up. If needed to help u reduce preparation time, you may wanna cook 3 days portion (to ensure the nurition nor freshness are compromised) and contained them in smaller containers n fridge them. I would micro wave the food and feed my feathered kids. To make it more exciting for the birds, i will add on food like almond nuts/walnut/pinenut or banana or beans (red/green/black/soya) or cabbage or brown rice etc to the main menu. Something to share with all la... Sky |
