Hey Andrew!
Your first-time self-bred 'tai mong' is coming along very nicely. Truth is when I first started, my initial success wasn't half as nice as what u have just produced ...... maybe I was using a lousy female bred by somebody who knew nothing about breeding shamas altho he was doing this for years without any decent result then. If I had known I would not have wasted 3 breeding seasons breeding with better birds so that I could get rid of the lousy genes inherent in my bred birds because of my big mistake using this lousy female in the first place ... I sh have used a wild-caught Langkawi female initially offered to me instead & then I would not have wasted those initial years! By the looks of your 'tai mong' I can see it has the long tail genes. For a first generation young bird it definitely shows a lot of potential. With this generation of youngs u sh continue to breed the female young bird with new wild caught males with good characteristics and tail of at least 10.5 inch length & then continue to do same with the next generation young female and when the chicks arrive u will have succeeded by then with male chicks having at least 11.5 inch tail for the first moult and females with tail length of at least 7 to 8+ inches. ![]() |

Thanks Mr.Kan for the kind comment........Luckily my breeding pair the female is a wild langkawi bird tail measured at 7.1" and the male is a Vietnam 11" wild bird which come in 3rd at the last Bedok Competition...... Although u got the VERY LOUSY female from someone which is "faulty" but u still manage to get rid of the lousy gene.......but wasted alot of times...... currently i would said many of the long tail shama breeder their breeding stock do carry the bloodline of ur previous Champion .......... BUT some not sucessful breeder only can produce shama that look like KUKU with long tail sitting on the perch..... Hopefully next year can breed my champion with a long tail female so to get his character and slightly longer tail for the offspring........ ![]() |

Hi andrew, glad to see that you are again another happy and sucessful owner of your new arrival(taimong).
Indeed as you have succeeded in shama breeding, its another stage of achievement that many bird keeper would hope to experience. Like what's said earlier ,breeding it may not be that difficult(if i'm not wrong). But breeding them with careful selection on its parentage genes in terms of characteristic , quality of the bird may be different and i guess you have done your homework before putting this task ahead. Congrats to you. By the way ,this baby taimong is a male or female ? Hope one day i could come to you for further advise on the shama breeding procedure and also learn from fellow sifu(s) and members here as well. Needless to say , 3 cheers to you again.... ![]() |
