Hi all,
I would like to share some good news! Was away for about a week and when I got back, did not pay any attention to my 2 feathered friends. Then yesterday evening I noticed that they have been tearing up the newspaper sheets on the floor of the cage, and also the female has been spending more time in the nest box and the male occassionally feeding her. I decided to give the nest box a check and found 2 eggs in the nest box! This is really wonderful! I then shredded some paper napkins and put into the cage and see the 2 birds starting to bring them into the nest box. Will be eagerly awaiting the arrival of the chicks....... ![]() |

And now there is 4......
Hiya,
I found another egg on Thursday and by today my dear little friend has laid her fourth egg.....wonder if there is more coming? Will need to get some calcium supplement for the female as I think she is pretty exhausted from all the laying....I've already gotten some new geed that has egg yolk in pellets form for her.... Just keeping my fingers crossed and hope the eggs will hatch into chicks.....which I think should be by 06th Feb if things goes well.. |

Hi all,
Guess it's going to be bad news....until now there is not one egg that hatched...As the first egg was laid on the 14th Jan, its been more than 24days and still the eggs are intact......can anyone tell me when should I remove the eggs from the nest box if they still never hatch?? |

Maybe you can give another few more days and if no sign of live inside the egg, you can remove it.. you actually can try to 'candle' the egg by looking below the light bulb... if there are some 'half blank' inside the egg, it is because the yolk inside the egg have dry up and you can throw the egg away..
[/s: Don't worry, you can try next season. |

Hi Jordan,
Tanin is correct. Be patient and wait for a few days more. Sometime only the last egg or so is fertile - the male still has not gotten the hang of how to mate properly for the first few eggs. Use a torchlight to candle the eggs in a few days time. You can see blood vessels if the eggs were fertile. It is very common that the first batch is infertile or the embryos dies-in-shell. The parents are still immature and female may not incubate tightly. You can removed all the eggs after 1 weeks time. The female will lay again within 15 - 20 days! make sure you have cuttle-bone or a liquid calcium supplement. Regards Rupert |
