Sweet pea - only the papa is a lionhead. But she definitely has the v-shaped bald pattern. Will ask my friend to send me her latest photos. I am curious to see what she looks like now anyway. I am sure the bunny misses her siblings. Spend more time with it lor and hopefully she will transfer the affection to you,

Hi, here's where I got the info abt double-maned genes. Not sure if it's accurate though. http://lionheadrabbit.net/gen%20manelindner.htm

Sweet Pea didn't grunt at all yesterday but she's still upset as she'd try to get back to her cage whenever I take her out. Previously, she'd run everywhere when let out for runs and practically go amok, binkying here and there.

I tried to bond her with her younger siblings from another litter. But she doesn't like them all. She lunged at each and every one of them even though I did introductions one by one, instead of in a group. I had to grab them away to prevent them from being bitten. Guess Sweet Pea's not ready yet. All too much is happening in such a short time. :-(

You need 2 manes genes to have DM. If there is only one its a SM.

some rabbits are domineering and well, they do prefer to be alone. some just gets along fine with humans but no no for other rabbits. some of my rabbits are like that too, so dont fret about trying to mix her with other rabbits alright?

with regards to mane, yes, u need 2 manes to get a double for the offsprings. but it does work for a double mane with a no mane parent. probably the maneless one carried some mane genes bah. its all about genetics

Thanks everyone for your advice abt the grunting. Sweet Pea's slightly more settled now and hasn't grunted in 2 days. I think she just needs some time to get used to being away from her siblings.

When she's over this, I'll try to bond her with one of her younger siblings again. Their cages are side by side and they can sniff at each other through the bars for now. Hopefully that helps.

Hi,
is it as bald as the photos shown in the website link sweetpea provided? Or is it that that there is a V line but no baldness. SM rabbits do not have the same baldness as DM rabbits.

Assuming that your baby rabbit was a DM:
This is what i am thinking could have happened...
Currently, you have stated that your male rabbit is a LH lop while your female rabbits is a fuzzy lop.

IMO, what could have happened for you is that you doe is not a pure bred rabbit. The problem in singapore is that a lot of the rabbits here were not bred properly and were results of cross breeding. Unless the rabbit has an authentic pedigree its generally not considered as a pure bred.

Your fuzzy lop could have been the result of a cross between a LH that is most likely a DM and some sort of lop. Hence, when bred to your lionhead lop(FYI: Not a recognised breed), it resulted in a DM.

One problem with lionheads is diet. If their diet is too high in protein, they will loose their mane. There are other factors that can cause them to loose their manes too but i'm digressing.

My question now is how the rabbit in question looks like now? Does it have a mane? How about skirting?

Hmm ... it looks like the baby shown in this link http://web.mac.com/dangrande/iWeb/Lionheads/Home.html

Well, 2 years into rearing rabbits i have learnt not to trust the words of pet shop owners. The price i paid for the fuzzy should be the price for a pure!! But then again who knows. As for the looks of the bunny now - all i hear is that it is a real puffball! We are not really into breeds and stuff so we are not so sure. My curiosity was piqued by sweet pea's comments. Anyhow, the owner is a friend of mine - will get him to send me some photos then i will post.

The most important thing to me is that the buns are all healthy, well-loved and really quite affectionate! I am having problems toilet training my remaining rascals though!
