Sorry I haven't been around. Anyway, just to share, my gerbils are currently on Marukan mix. But breeding females have to be pumped up. Especially with large litters. The largest litter I experienced is 9 bb (or was it 10? Haiz, my bf is the one who will remember) and my female became as slender as a twig. It's gd to feed boiled egg white, boiled tofu, unsweetened cereal (but I fed her Waffle Crisps before), raisins, cheese, bread soaked with milk. Just remember the food must be high in protein and calcium. She really needs this 2. It's ok to feed mealworms, but do remember that they only provide protein or "pure fat", nothing else. Umm, I think I remember reading that you can also feed powdered pet milk.

It wld be good to supplement the bb as well, to help spurt their growth and relieve mama's burden. They will eat what she eats starting from 2 weeks I believe. They'll start to try, taste and experiment. So encourage them. Mine started eating bedding until they found something better. Of course, they aren't fully weaned till 3 weeks old. Try not to separate them till 1 mth old, cos they'll still be learning lessons from mama. Gd luck.

Hiyah Clover,

Wow, the info certainly helped me. I didn't know they can take milk hahaha.... Well, I'm still learning. Currntl mama gerbil is on a break. Her babies are 2 months old now and very chubby. Yes, they do learn from their mom a lot. I wish they were more gerbils in the market. I can't find any at the moment.

Actually, they are not very common in Singapore either. Most ppl feel they look like rats and therefore, dislike them. I've only seen them in a few shops.

Wu... rare also? Hahaha.... coz I went to one Sg forum, always got free adoptions on gerbils so I thought common there... anyway, I find them nicer to have than fancy mice hehehh.... When I was breeding mice, I specialise in black and tan mice as well as dove and tan. Now ah.... no more these colour types in the market after I stopped breeding
