African Grey

I'd like to find out what kind of diet are CAG owners feeding. As we all know they can be finicky and wastseful. I feed Sluis mix.

I am not very satisfied with their size and I think the general condition can be improved. Mainly I like to know a good diet to boost their size a little and improve general conidtion.

Would appreciate any input.

hi dogcom...i have 2 african greys at my work place too...we normally feed them with fruits..only on mon & thurs its pellets day...the fruits we r feeding to all parrots (macaws, electus, cockatoos, amazon, african grey) are papaya, corn, grape, celery, sugar cane,banana,apple,kiwi...research on these fruits have been done before deciding to be include in their diet...special days they get raw groundnuts, sunflower seed and almond too...as nuts are very high in fats...it is not advisable to feed them too much....all my parrots takes in green veges too like watercress, long beans etc...pellets brand which we gave is mazuri...

birds dont get Diarrhea from eating alot of fruits, just the solid waste will become like liquid waste due to the moisture of the fruits. too much protein in the diet though, will cause Diarrhea. Bear in mind these birds feed on fruits and their seeds in the wild, with abit of protein here and there. Too much protein will lead to Diarrhea. Feed everything moderately is the best thing to do

yes yes...dats y i mention dat we actually work out how much vit a bird needs a day and plan their diet...those fruits mention above they dun take all together...we rotate the fruits...even if pellets day, their meal will include certain fruits too to make up the total vit needed...yes its true dat their waste will be watery but definately not diarrhea....so if u wanted to give ur parrot fruits as their diet...then must really work on the amount liao...like how much needed...my parrots fruits all have standard size too...not too big,not too small...hahaha...troublesome rite...but no choice cos it does them good....n most importantly....all my parrots will finish up all the fruits given...not a single pc left

Thanks for the tips Angel99. So far I've never fed papaya to my Greys. The memory of Jambul, Lorikeet and Hill Minah (again these are some of the birds I've kept for short duration years back and almost forgotten) and their watery, sometimes stale smelling poo just make me avoid this fruit. But I think I'll add that into their diet from now on.

Any idea how to boost their body size? or improve appetite??
