Our forum member Mark PM me this site and I found it very interesting and may seriously help those that wanting to get a cockatoo as pets.

yeah.. I have come across this site before...they are against any breeding of cockatoos...

I understand that there are many case which happen to this poor little creature, but as silvanus said, it is up to us... and I choose to continue keeping birds ...I think the most important things is make sure it is in 'good hand' and they get what they deserve... :)

I had experience keeping Ducorp, Sulphur Crested, Umbrella and Moluccan. All I can say is every bird has it's own charactor and behaviour. I had come across a lady that owns a talkative but non-screaming Sulphur Crested and that is very rare for a Sulphur Crested.

Generally for cockatoos, the smaller the species, the smaller their voice. Which is why the Lesser sulphurs and Citrons cost much more.

Agree with you Rupert. :) Unfortunately lots of people out there just buy bird based totally on their 'first sight love'... hopefully thing change and they may come and visit the forum like this to learn more... :bigsmile:

We have had our sweet little U2 Elvie since he was a baby. He's very quiet, not a screamer. He loves to keep occupied playing with his toys and keeping my hubby and I company. He travels with us on when we go places and take vacations. He loves people and is well socialized. We have spent a lot of time working with him and give him a happy loving home. If you ever met him I am sure you'd love him and be amazed how good he is. :)

Hi there, i have a friend (retired uncle) who recently got himself a couple of young cockatoos - similar to ur avatar (those with rossy cheeks)
while i am not sure how much he know about cockatoos, he does however has experiences handling 'longtails'

1) why does cockatoos mutilate themselves,
2) what are the preventation,
3) does all cockatoos does this,

If anyone here can briefly tell me in layman term the answers to them, so tat i can let him know about my findings...
