Background of Speaker:
Dr. Xu is a research scientist at the Product Technology Centre (St Louis, USA) of Nestle Purina PetCare Company. He received a B.Sc.degree in Biology from Hunan Normal University (Changsha, China) in 1983, a M.S. degree in Biology from Zhongshan University (Guangzhou, China) in 1986. From 1986 to 1989, he taught at Zhongshan University. In 1989, he was awarded the Pratt Fellowship to study animal nutrition at Virginia Tech (University) in the USA. And in 1991, he was awarded the Ross Scholarship to study Food Science and Nutrition at Purdue University (USA). He earned a PhD degree in Food Science and Nutrition from Purdue in 1995. Upon completion of his doctoral program, he joined Nestle Purina PetCare Company. He has held Nutrition Scientist and Research Scientist positions.

During his 10 year career working at Nestle Purina PetCare Company, Dr. Xu has conducted pet nutrition research in the areas of antioxidants, osteoarthritis & joint health, feline weight management, feline urinary tract health, feline hairball control and kitten nutrition etc. He has formulated and developed many innovative pet foods for brands like Pro Plan, Purina ONE, Cat Chow, Kitten Chow, Purina Veterinary Diets, Special Care, and Purina branded treats for the global pet food markets.
