palm cockatoo

let me first congratulate petsfanatics for providing this invaluable forum about pets. My only regret is that it took me so long to come across this. Anyway, my palm cockatoos finally hatched a chick recently and feeding it well so far. I have another chick from an egg taken out earlier and hatched in incubator. Need advice on the hand feeding formula. The chick is doing well but I want it to get proper nutrition. Please help.

Congrats on successfuly hatching palm babies ! For proper handfeeding procedure and nutrition, get Kaytee Baby Bird Hand Feeding formula. The ratio of water and solid can be found on the manual which comes along with the formula.

That's is amazing, not one but double bonus. Congratulation. Is that their first clutch, I think u must be very excited. It is really hard to breed palm in captivity, and I have never heard people 'successfully' breeding palm in Malaysia. Keep good care of the babies, don't forget to post some of their photos here.

When you mentioned Palm Cockatoo I wasn't sure if you mean the Black Palm Cockatoo but I guess that's what you mean unless the is another species called Palm Cockatoo :p

This is extraordinary if I may say, to successfully breed it. They really difficult to find now. Even back then I understand it cost bomb?

Torphaine, Silvanus do you know for years there's been reported sightings of a Black Palm at Jalan Merbok?
;)

Jalan Merbok is very near my place, maybe the bird is from the nearby Bt Batok Nature Park.

Thanks for the advice. As to date, both babies doing well. I've bought Kaytee baby food formula and seems to be well liked but the baby seems to enjor Nestum baby cereal + boiled egg yolk. Is itu OK to continue with this.

Success didn't come easy with these birds althouh I have been breeding lories quite successfully. The palms were my first pair of big parrots obtained in 1990. They became quite tame and bonded with each other well but never laid an egg before, even an infertile one and yet they surprised me with 2 chicks after 15 years.
