Fleas and Ticks!!
 

Hi ppl,

My dog got alot those eight legged ticks and fleas.....i have tried using frontline applicator and spray but they dont seems to die plus my dog is black so its beri difficult for me to actually see and catch them......i tink my hse is infested with it too...... :( any ways to solve?i tinking of being him to pet salon for de-ticking service...but even if his body is free from ticks but when he come back frm the salon the ticks in my hse will still get onto his body again right?? :mad:

The Frontline works but since the ticks have spread in the house you must treat the house paying particularly attention to the places your dog lies down. You can save by using a household insecticide instead of Frontline for this treatment. Lock you dog in a crate or tie it somewhere else when you pray the house. Pay particular attention to wooden furnitures and floor and wall crevices.

When there is a heavy outbreak of ticks it is recommended that the treatment should be more frequent. For the spray type the usual treatment is 2months and the Spot On type 3months but change treatment to 1month and 2months respectively.

But do you tink going for de-ticking will help?or shld i wait for sometimes first and see whether the ticks are control? :confused:

thks alot....yest when i comb my dog i saw some dead ticks already....but u were saying spray treatment is 1mth u mean 1mth later den i can spray my dog again is it?den also after how long then i can bath him after the spray?

Read the instructions on the product you are using and follow accordingly. If you are using the Frontline Spot On it is resistant to swimiing, rain and bathing but try and reduce the number of baths and cut down on shampoo use. Do not bath the dog two days before and after treatment with Spot On. I believe the Spray type is not as water resistant. ;)

May I suggest for your house ....that you buy (only available from Malaysia....like JB) Baygon xtra strong...the cap is orange or yellow in colour.
Make sure no pets or young kids around...give the whole house a good spray. The Malaysian version of Baygon is very toxic so be careful with usage. Frontline if I am not wrong is the modified version of "sheep dip" and I have high regards for the product.

I have received a number of SOS about ticks infestation the last couple of weeks.

Just one more thing that came to my mind. When you find the ticks on the dog or the surroundings, DO NOT squash it! By doing that especially with those "big fat mama" ones, you inadvertently splash the eggs around.

What you need to do is to drop it into a bottle of soap water. Flash it down the toilet the next day. It should be dead by then. Do note that the ticks are known to be able to crawl out of the toilet bowl after you flush it down, you need to kill it in the soap water first.
