Puteh with watery droppings

Hello all,

Im a newbie to bird-keeping. My friend just got a puteh that has watery droppings, is there any cure to this illness? Got some advice from others to let the puteh have orange and bird-feed only with no water. Is this the right thing to do to the poor bird? Please help. Thank you.

IMHO, there are 2 scenarios.

If your puteh is "ping pong", inactive and watery droppings, means the bird is ill, you can get diahorrea medication from bird shops.

If your puteh is still slim looking, and active but watery droppings, then in this case, nothing much you can do to it. Its more of a habit. Some tends to eat more fruits and drink more water then eating birdfeed, hence dropping is watery. There are cases where watery droppings are cause by hot stuffy enviroment, once they get the habit, its irreversible.

All in all, I feel that it is ok to have watery droppings, so long the bird is healthy and singing. There are people who discard such bird, main reason is because they are too messy to take care. I have one puteh that can drink a whole tube of water in less than a day, its dropping is basically water, no solid, but the bird can chai, almost anywhere, and I still keeping it.

Hi ahpeow,

Thank you very much for yr help/advice and you r right about the puteh. The condition is more of scenerio 2 where it is not "Ping Pong" but not in very good shape either. In that case, since it is habitual, will have more water readily for the bird to drink to avoid dehydration.

puteh with watery droppings.

Hi lexan, what your friend say is true in that once the shit is watery its irreversible. But if the bird is good and still worth keeping, try chinese tea.I had tried it before and it works wonders. Not concentrated but dilute with water.Green tea is also ok.My theory is that the tea is abit bitter so the bird drinks less.I for one will not tolerate watery shit because the site and smell is simply awful. For such a small bird the watery shit really stinks.Well i suppose no harm trying.good luck.
ps.once chinese tea all the time chinese tea,
the moment you switch to water its watery again.

Thx boss.

Point noted.

I'm sharing from a practical aspect that my fren with Puteh ( many) n I with Jambol( only one) with same problem that have had permanent cure based on natural nutrition n not antibiotics etc as this is a serious practical problem with many Puteh owners- more than Jambols unfortunately.

In any case, we will await the answers from Dr.Tong as he would be the best subject matter expert.

Thank you.

Bro,
you are most welcome.
I understand there are also some "traditional" methods that work too. Also I believe not many song birds keepers will bring their birds to vet unlike the parrot keepers. This will be a very interesting thread to follow.
:D
