Caretaking Tips for your TVR
5 Attachment(s)
The first feature of the Cartaking Tips thread, I would like to cover the maintainance of your TVR pond. It is very important that TVR keepers minimize the amount of waste that the fish produced that's in the pond at all time. Nitrate and ammonia are detrimental to our TVR's health. The accumulation of wastes will also ruin the TVR's complexsion. There should be a constant effort from keepers to ciphon the waste out in regular interval. It is a very bad idea to have you fish swim around their own waste. Ranchu will tend chew over their own feces as they look for food, and that's not good. If you see any solid waste floating in the water, make it a habit to take it out right away. You may use a net or a ciphoning tube.
The series of picture which I will present following this thread is a serie of pictures of Mr.Kashino cleaning his BBRs pond by ciphoning out wastes. The pictures are self explanatory and they are a friendly reminder for all you TVR keepers to keep up the good work. It is a simple task, and when you do it regularly your fish will love you for it, and their condition will improve ten folds. This simple routine will also minimize any problem with your TVR's gills. |

Dapphnia, or Water flea or Mijinko

Dapphnia is the best food for the growing needs of your BBRs. We are very lucky in Thailand and we can have it delivered fresh to us at home. From what I have read in other forum, it is also available in SG as well.
However, in Japan, it is kind of hard to find too. You have to try to find them in the natural water ways. Followings are pictures of Mr.Kashino netting some Mijinko for his fish. You may feel a bit lucky that you do not do so much for your fish. This is just case and point on the hard work that keepers need to do for their TVRs. You will see how he obtains them, cleans them and feeds them to his fish. I have so much respect for him for having to do it every day. Hope that you enjoy the pictures, and keep up the good work. :) Pat |
Dapphnia

Mr.Kashino has to go to many ponds in order to get enough dapphnia for his fish. After he has gotten enough, he would clean them and get them ready for feeding.
