Breeding Shamas using Incubators
The hobby of keeping the shama is getting very popular nowadays and many hobbyists are seeking to breed this song bird as well.
For novice breeders the use of incubators enhances the success rates of breeding this very beautiful song bird. Mr Chua of Goodwill Bird Trading is an expert and at the same time a very helpful person in this respect. Egg incubators can be purchased from the supplier mentioned below for those who are interested: Asby Singapore Pte Ltd Blk 2 Balestier Road #01-687 Singapore 320002 Tel: (65) 62511858 Website: www.asby.com.sg Person to contact: Mr Ang |
This is very interesting. Did anyone try the incubator and what is the success rate? As a newbie and (where I am in US) it is very expensive to purchase a young shama, I would like to experience the incubator if it has high success rate and not too expensive to own an incubator. In addition, with government regulations restricting the import of birds like shama, zosterops, Hwa mei, etc. However, I still looking to own a shama (someday). Regards,

Using the Incubator.

Yes, I have used the incubator before in breeding shamas. But please use it only if: 1. U have encountered difficulties having initial success breeding the natural way and u are impatient for your first success. 2. If u are in a hurry to breed to recover the good genes of birds u have bred before. In my case I stopped breeding for a while and when I picked up again I used this method to expedite the recovery of the good long tail genes of a 9-year old male shama that I bred before. *dance Otherwise I do not recommend the incubator for shama breeding for it means having to hand-feed the babies and they then become tame and domesticated and do not possess the wildness in their nature that shama needs to perform and sing aggressively during 'outings' with other shamas and/or in competitions. :) *dance |
