Exclusive interview with top parrots and song birds provider in Singapore !

Mr Chua Kah Soon, 45, is currently Singapore's top parrot and song bird provider, importer and exporter. He deals with countless birds every year and has also entertained many VVIP visitors !

William: What other concurrently appointments is he holding:

Mr Chua: I am currently holding the appointment of the Vice President of PETAS( Pets Enterprise & Traders Association (Singapore))

William: When did you start working with birds ?

Mr Chua: I worked for Chua Pet's Trading for 5 years before opening Goodwill Birds Trading in Dec 1989.

William: What interests you to step into the bird trade ?

Mr Chua: I feel that keeping birds as pets is a healthy hobby as it does not involve any negative traits. Patience is cultivated and knowledge is gained, bird keeping also builds the love for animals, conservation and encourages people to keep birds bred in captivity.

William: Why birds and not other pets ?

I think that birds are the most colourful and most beautiful of all animals. Songs of the birds like canaries and finches helps people relax from a tiring day of work. In the morning, upon hearing the songs, it refreshes me. Tamed parrots such as budgie, lovebirds and cockatiels is very good for children to keep as pets to cultivate their patience and caring spirit. With proper education, these children will grow into adults who will respect nature and understand conservation. Bigger birds like conures, senegals and other medium size birds can enable teenagers to be more commited and responsible instead of roaming the streets and malls. Cockatoos, macaws and amazons can converse and be handled by working adults, so as to help them forget a tiring day and just relax and enjoy the bird's company. Keeping birds also gives the owner a more regular time schedule, so that the owner will not have much free time for negative activities.

William: Who have you come into contact with throughout your career ?

Mr Chua: I meet people from all walks of life. From office employees to professionals like doctors, ministers, ambasaddors and entrepeneurs. I have also come into contact with royalties of different countries.

William: Last but not least, what is your vision for Singapore's bird trade?

Mr Chua: Bird keeping enables Singaporeans to have a healthy hobby. Singapore is the only country in the world where different races can come together every weekend without fail and enjoy talking about bird keeping, be it song birds or parrots. I hope that bird keeping act as a platform for people to meet different people of different races with the same hobby. It(bird keeping) strengthens the cohesion of different families. I also hope that more gatherings are organized for people to share and exchange ideas and knowledge to be a better bird owner and to have a good place to spend time with friends and family.
