training for amazon parrot
 

can someone pls guide me as to how to train an amazon to talk?the amazon is quite old liao...ard 6 yrs old...do i repeat the word to the parrot nonstop?i know once it says wat i want liao then feed and reward....i know vocal from trainer very impt too...juz wanna know izzit easy to train this amazon since its oredi kinda old...pls advise :)

You basically got the idea there. What I'd suggest is to focus on that one or two words you like to teach otherwise he just hear a lot of noise. Repeat the words everyday and every time you see him. If he's already making some noise and if you pay close attention you may notice it sounds a little like something the family members say. Pick that out and encourage the bird with favourite treats and a lot of cheer. Try it. :)

thks dogcom...actually im having a rough idea liao cos im working with animals (parrots) in sentosa...im juz thinking wat is the best and faster way to improve its vocal...anyway,thks alot dogcom for ur advise...will try my hands on it and if i come across any problems i'll seek ur help again :)

one more qn...i want the amazon to talk on cue too....so do i teach the cue the moment it says wat i want?

Angel, If you re working with animals already you shouldn't have much difficulty. BTW what organisation and what exactly is the nature of your work?

im currently working under sentosa at the animal unit...basically my main job is to do show presentation and husbandry for the animals.... :)
