Eclectus screaming
 

Hi all,

I would like to check with any that keep Ekkies... In some forum, I found that people ask 'what to do' when their ekkies scream (especially early morning and late afternoon - dusk)...

Since I also do keep ekkies, I found that it is normal for my ekkies to do that especially if they want their nest box or if they are happy (in my opinion)

How about yours? any comment/opinion on this issue? :bigsmile:

Hi Tanin,

I have close to 200 eclectus. Some just like to scream, others are rather quiet. Generally, you can condition them not to scream when they are younger. Once they are older it is much harder. Whatever you do, don't scream back as they will just learn to out-scream you!

I use a thin cane to tap their feet to get them to stop. After a while, just showing them the cane or tapping it on their cage will stop the them. I sometime use a green thick welder's glove that I use to hold them with when I first catch them to cut their nails and feathers. Just showing it to them works wonders!

I have 6 pairs in my living room and study - that is proof it works.

p/s: For me 2 pair in the house and my wife is like killing me already :D
