There are 2 main type of cages.

1) Wire - based
2) Solid based

Solid based cages are better if you toilet train your rabbits. Wire base is better if your rabbit(s) aren't toilet trained.

Are you referring to the wire of the litter pan? Or the wire of the cage?

For cage wires, it depends on the rabbit itself. Some rabbits don't have any problems with it, while others can get sore hocks while on wire cages. A easy way to solve this problem is to use bathroom mats to cover the wire.

As for litter training, it's quite easy but requires some patience for stubborn rabbits. :)
