they can.. they are called zoonotic diseases(passed fr animal to human to vice versa). certain bacterium like toxoplasmosis and fungus infections like ringworm. however there are certain precautions u can take against them and also, to prevent them from happening in the first place. how is this a concern with u?

Hi SIs. I have a 2 year old kid and my wife is quite concerned abt cats affecting his health in the near future. R the diseases fatal?? What are the precautions that I should adopt to avoid tis? Pls enlighten me. Cheers

Hi there,
do you have any cats at present? If you don't have a cat yet but am thinking of getting one, do consider your wife's approval....otherwise you will have to rehome your cat.... After all, the life span of a cat is relatively long.
Btw, does your child have asthma or any allergies to dust/fur? These are very important factors to think of before you get a cat..

its scientifically proven that kids growing up with animals have better immunity and socialise better. toxoplasmosis is a concern with pregnant ladies.. if ur gonna stop at one kid.. you have no worries. if not.. read up about what u can do to prevent this.. ringworm is a fungal infection which causes red, dry spots on the body and fur loss. it is not fatal.. a healthy cat from a good breeder will not have such diseases.
