Some questions on ARBA Singapore and Jersey Wooly

Hi all,

I've been interesting in Jersey Wooly rabbits for quite some time, unfortunately there's no ARBA club in Indonesia. :(

Do you have judges and registrars in Singapore? Is there also any Jersey Woolies breeders?

There is no ARBA here. The only ARBA in Asia is in Japan and Thailand. Don't think there are any breeders here with jersey woolies.

Hope this helps

No Jersey Woolies breeder in Singapore?? Which means that we can only get it from pet shop?

there might be some but i'm not sure. It's just that there is no singapore ARBA registered rabbitry for jeresy wollies. So if you're looking for show quality parents etc, it might be a bit diff.

Jeresy wollies are also higher maintanence than NDs and HLs.

Really? Why is that so??

Their longer coat of wool requires regular grooming as it easily matts and tangles in comparisim to short coated bunnies like NDs or HLs.

At least one basic comb through every 2 days and a more detailed groom at least once a week to maintain their coats.

IMO, also have to be more careful about the temperature as wool traps heat. That's why we use them for our sweaters etc. Not that common, but some people mix it with angora wool and knit it together. They are also larger than HLs and NDs

A Jersey Woolies breeder in USA wrote that Jersey Woolies don't require as much groom as angora as they have different texture of coat. Jersey Woolies coat can't be knitted as they are "pretty hard"...it is written that once a Jersey Wooly fully grown up it doesn't require regular groom as Angoras. US breeders only groom their JW before shows.

You'll be surprised but their fur is sometimes mixed with that of an angora and knitted. This reduces the cost of the wool as angora fur is quite costly. JWs don't require as much grooming as an angora but still require much more grooming than a HL, ND etc.
All breeds are groomed before a show and during moulting.
