Cat-crazed
I have a 3 yr old jack russell. He is okay with humans & other dogs, but thoroughly goes crazy & barks non-stop when he sees cats, lizards, moth or other smallish creatures. Anyone has a solution to keep him quiet?

Teach your dog the “Leave it” command
Teach your dog the “Leave it” command. This could save your dog from eating something that could hurt him.
· Prepare a handful of your dog’s favourite treats and hide it in your pocket. · Have the dog leashed and placed in a SIT position. Hold the leash taut but don’t pull. · Put a piece of treat on the floor about one meter away form the dog. · As you place the treat down, you'll notice that your dog is staring at it and drooling. Say"Leeeave It" very slowly and in a stern voice. · Keep your leash hand “ready”. If your dog leans forward to get it, give the leash a sharp jerk away as you say "Leave It". · Waits a few second and if the dog didn’t lean forward and pull, give him a few pieces from your pocket as reward with lavish praise. · Don't give him the food on the floor. Repeat this game several times a day, a few minutes each time. You can then start to apply this training in your daily walks and look out for “rubbish picking” habit and in your case to ignore small creatures. The trick is to start training from a greater distant first and then progressively get closer to the “distraction”. All the best in your endeavour :) ;) Quote:

eh how bout dogs who go gaga on cats??
vicky silvanus dog and her father both have this problem .... |
i believe dogcom had answered that question in his earlier reply, once your dog mastered the "leave it" command, i think he will leave any cat/rubbish/cockroach alone.
