Need advise!!!

Hi all,

Nice to meet all of you here.

I need some advise over here on how to go about complaining on cheated by a pet shop.

Last Sunday i went to a pet shop in Pasir Ris, a big pet farm. There i bought my 1st puppy here. Before i decided to buy that particular puppy, i spoke to 2 sales person there and both claimed that it is a pure local Maltese breed. So the deal is closed. Today the puppy is delivered to me and i bring him to a vet for normal check up. There i found out that he is not a pure breed but a cross. So my bf called up the pet shop and speak to the sales manager who served us that day, and on the phone he claimed that he told us that it might be a cross. But the truth is this information is not passed on to us on that day itself. Neither me nor my bf heard that this little puppy is a cross. The sales manager even made a irresponsible statement :"since the puppy is so small, we can't tell that if it is a cross or a pure breed as well!" And on the vacination card that they pass to us it is also written that the puppy is a maltese.

I really feel cheated by all this thing and angry with the irresponsbile words that the manager said.

Even though i personally think whether the puppy is a pure breed or not is not very important as we are sure going to love him as much. But to tell us that it is a pure breed but it is not at the end is definitely not something i can tolerate. I love this little puppy but on the other hand i can't let these ppl get out of their dirty business trick.

Pls advise how can i go about to file up a complain to the authority about this particular irresponsible pet shop.

Your great help is much appreciated. We are really angry this and wish to be able to take action towards this.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Evie

There is one similar incident that happened and after consulting a lawyer we realised that there is no case unless the sales come with a Predigee cert that proved it's breed. Then we also found out those "pure" breed on sale will come with Predigee, example Maltese Predigee for $XXX and is much more expensive. Those without the word Predigee is very likely to be a cross or "Predigee" unknown.

Hope this helps.

It's bad for the petshop people to twist their words but it's difficult to prove since everything said is verbal.

Anyway how to prove that your maltese is a crossbred? Some purebred may look crossbred to some people just because their feature don't fit closely to the breed standard. I have similar experience with yours 15 years ago. I bought my 7 wk old Westie from a petshop and I brought him to see a vet two days later when he had diarrhea. The receptionist girl asked me what breed was my dog and when I said it's a Westie, she commented it's a crossbred Westie. The vet overheard the girl's comment and told her to shut her mouth and assured me mine was a Westie. I didn't really bother but I was surprised how she tell a crossbred from a purebred. Anyway my Westie isn't a show quality Westie and we've never asked for one when we bought him.

hi im not surprised by the vet's response. for all u know she was right. but the truth is.. vets are not very well versed in breeds in the first place. even if they are.. they cant go around telling such things to their customers..they'd lose all of them. so i bring in a strapping large mongrel and i say its a chihuahua.. the vet will never tell me otherwise. if you buy from a pet shop.. u can never be sure. as long as there is no pedigree.. dog or cat.. u cant know for sure.
pomlover.. the pet farm in pasir ris is one of the least trustworthy places around. i always advise ppl.. if u cant find a registered breeder of a particular breed.. import or adopt. even with cats they spout a lot of crap. they were selling this persian cat with a fungal infection and has the audacity to tell my friend that it was recovering. no such thing as recovering. the cat is either ill or it is not. and in this case.. it was quite a bad infection. when asked.. where is this cat registered with.. the smart answer? SKC! to this day i can still have a laugh about it. i didnt know that SKC goes around registering cats. always find out about a person or a place before buying live animals from them... also know what u should be getting. safeguard yourself because these people are in it for profit and they are more sales motivated than anything else.

So does it mean i have no case over here? And those ppl just go along with their dirty job?

So i just have to take it this way? How could it be no case? It is a cheat! I am really upset. There is at least something i can do to warn this ppl? :( I really do not like this feelings.

technically u should have.. but then as said u have no written proof that the shop claims the dog is pedigreed. u can say they said this.. but they can make up some story. do u have a vaccination card at least? which says he is maltese?

My advise is there is not such thing as 100% pure breed unless there is a pedigree cert to support it's claim. That's one of the reason why people are paying more for a pedigreed.

Petshops cannot be trusted. That's why it is always advisable to get from a reputable breeder. In Malaysia, petshops mostly get their puppies from puppy mills and the puppies are always sick during sales or they carry some sort of virus. My point is, petshops only want to sell so they will tell you all sorts of stories just to make a sale. My friend bought a maltese that cost him RM2.5k and he was shock to find out that it has Tick Bourne Fever, a disease that can spread to humans. Luckily he had black and white contract with the petshop so he was able to do something about it and get a refund.

Best is if you don't trust a petshop, come up with your own contract. It may be troublesome but it can help you a lot in the future. Still, the best place to get puppies is from a good breeder.

Like what Silvanus, this case is not solid. If you have proof of a cert then you can argue your case.
