Hi there,
do you have any cats at present? If you don't have a cat yet but am thinking of getting one, do consider your wife's approval....otherwise you will have to rehome your cat.... After all, the life span of a cat is relatively long.
Btw, does your child have asthma or any allergies to dust/fur? These are very important factors to think of before you get a cat..
