Glass/Acrylic cages

For people using the above mentioned type of cages, how do you ensure that the cage has adequete ventilation? How do you know how many ventilation holes are enough? Besides the fact that glass is more resistant, and does not scratch as easily, are there any differences? Price wise, is glass much more costly?
Thanks.
