Unhappy I want to get a kitten but no reason to, how ??

Dear All :

I came across a kitten for sale yesterday and he was the cutest pie I've ever came across ! I was so tempted to buy it but becoz Im still staying with my parents who dislike cats, I have no reason to buy and keep under the same roof as my folks. My mother in law is also afraid of cats and does not agree to having one in her flat either.

Now, the only place if ever i will get the cat is to keep it caged in my husband's bedroom, and I was told to keep the windows closed just in case the cat might jump out of it.

The problem is I really wanted to get the cat, and I have no good reason to keep it at my place. Do you all still think I should go ahead to get it ?

*sigh*

the question is.. where can u house it. And if u bring it home.. will someone who is unhappy with the idea force the cat out? And to add to this.. its better to buy from a responsible breeder who is registered with the proper associations as compared to pet shops and farms. dont support backyard breeders and the likes of them. You are only encouraging the flesh trade. Talk to all your family members before making this decision. There are more things to consider before getting a cat. 'Where' is only one of them.

Thanks for ur reply. Ive made a decision not to get the kitty anymore as there are indeed too many factors to consider, and I dont want the kitten to fall sick & fustrated within a confined area. So will probably get the cats when our new flat comes.

Thanks for the advice, but Im not sure where in singapore is a good place to look for good breeder cat shops ? The kitten i want to get is a local breed persian-chinchilla. have you came across this ? Ragdoll is my first priority tho but when i came across this cute chap, its hard to resist him!

Btw, I asked the petshop owner where he get these persian chinchilla cats, he said its from his "private breeder"... do you think it sounds fishy ??

Important is you, yourself get from a responsible breeders. Check out in net and search for criteria of responsible breeders. Its good that you didn't get the cats. Family agreement is important before you get a pet.

it doesnt sound just fishy..its downright inethical. Basically its a kitten mill. Any good breeder will never sell his animals to a pet shop. I know of a few ragdoll breeders in Singapore. U can visit them at www.nekokyu.com
www.temasekcattery.com and www.catwhizzkerz.com
If you do have the opportunity to talk to them( u can at our cat show in january next year) and visit them.. u will see why it is important to buy from a breeder you can trust. There are no registered chinchilla breeders in Singapore but there are persian breeders of cos. Its really troublesome to own a persian and unless u are 100% motivated to groom a persian half hour daily i would advise against getting one. Too many people underestimate the difficulty in keeping a persian in tip top condition. To get a cat, a cat show is one of the best places to start cos there will be breeders, different breeds and cats from cat welfare being adopted out. So whatever you choose, you can find it at a cat show. Why dont you mark the date in your calendar and come for a look see. Maybe you will be able to persuade your parents if they are able to speak to breeders as well. Even if u didnt manage to do so.. u wld still have had fun =)

Ya, it's important to consider all factors before getting a cat as it is long-term responsibility and should not be taken lightly!
