SHORT-HAIRED MINIATURE DASCHUND

Description: Long body like a train. Short-legged like a dwarf. The Miniature Daschund. These colourful hounds with rainbow of colours range from red and tanned, black and tanned, shaded red, cream, silver dappled to harlequin varieties. Hailed as the top three most popular breeds in Japan, the Miniature Daschund is also gaining its popularity in Singapore with its striking good looks and gentle nature. Coat varieties range from short-haired, long-haired to the wire-haired.

Temperament : Hard to resist the expressive eyes of a Miniature Daschund? If you do, you probably have already fallen for one. Eager to please and with eyes that talk, it's hard to ignore a Miniature Daschund when its pleading for attention. Lively, affectionate and extremely devoted to its family, a Miniature Daschund indeed makes a lovely companion for anyone.

Height, Weight: Miniature (dwarf): Height up to 35cm.; Weight : 5kg-7kg

Health Problems: Prone to spinal disc problems and heart disease. As Daschunds love to eat, owners should watch its diet to prevent added strain on its long body.

Living Conditions: A HDB approved breed. Although a Miniature Daschund would love a walk down the park, however it is flexible whether with or without walks. Also ideal for apartments or landed.

Exercise: Despite its height and built, a Miniature Daschund has excellent stamina for a good run down the park. As it loves to be cuddled, it would also settle gladly on your lap anytime.

Life Expectancy : About 12-15 years.

Grooming: The short-haired is the easiest to manage as all it needs is a good rub down its back with a rubber brush. The long-haired and wire-haired need regular brushing at least twice a week. Professional grooming is required for the long-haired and wire-haired at least once every two months. Nail-clipping is necessary at least once a fortnight.

Origin: Dachs: a word to describe badger. Originated in Germany hundred of years ago, the dachshund were originally bred to hunt, dig out the prey and move down the burrows with its short legs.

QUESTIONS

a) Are there so call Pure Breed or Pedigree for such breed?

b) As attachment, why those are from the same breed yet the looks are totally different?

c) Does it mean buying a better breed would lessen the genetic health problems?

d) How much does it cost to maintain such a dog?

e) Is it available in Singapore?

f) Where to buy and how do we know they are a trusted dog breeders?

g) What is the market rate for such breed?

h) Does all dogs mouth get smelly when they grow old?
