Helping a man with both Kidneys Failure

Hi everyone,

I got to know a Malay person from the Yahoo Classified Birds Section and I bought a parrot (Black Caped Lori) from him today.

The reason he is selling away all his pets is because he had contacted kidney disease. Both his kidneys failed on him. I saw the cotton dressings and patches of near his collar bone and chest area. But I did not ask for his medical reports.

After purchasing the parrot from him, I spoke to him and got his consent to release some information here.

His name is Suwandy ( I addressed him as Wandy) and he was retrenched in Mar 2007 after working for about 10 years as a despatch rider in a small travel agency. The poor man got hit by the disease in late April 2007 while he was jobless. He is out from hospital and staying in Blk 361, Yung An Road, Taman Jurong.

Wandy is 38 years old with 3 children of the age 6, 11 and 17. His eldest son had to stop school to work in order to help his father with the medical bills and also to support the family. Suwandy's wife is working as a factory worker with a monthly income of about $850.

Luckily he had bought some insurance which helped him to cover some of his medical bills but he still has to go for kidney dialysis 3 times a week. The fees for each dialysis session is 4 hrs and the cost is about $180 per dialysis. Not to mention his medical fees for doctor appointments and treatment.

Now he is watiing for his doctor's appointment and advice whether he is fit for work. Hope that he can find a job that allows him to go for constant dialysis as well as to continue to have income to cope with the medical expenses and also for the family. Until then, he would need money to help him through the tough time.

If there is anyone who wish to help him in any way, please pm or sms me 96918811 and I will give you his contact number for you to liaise directly with him.

I told him that any donations from anyone should be given to him directly ONLY after the person who intends to donate has clarified this piece of information. Wandy has agreed to be contacted and also to visit him in order to understand his situation better.

Best regards to all and stay healthy always.....

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reading, I noticed that Wandy did not have bums on either of his arms, I thought there should be because of the poking of needles into the veins for dialysis. I only saw two plastered cotton wools on his right upper chest.

I have verified with a friend from one of the Kidney Dialysis Center and he said that nowadays, instead of having the needle to poke through the veins in the arms, there is another way of inserting tubes on the right or left chest near the collar bones where there is a blood vessel to be used for dialysis purposes.

It really doesn't take much to help this man, all it takes is a few dollars from anyone and it will make a great difference for Wandy and his family to use for the medical and daily expenses.

I have decided to donate a sum of $1200 from my company's fund to Wandy this Saturday around 11 to 12pm over at his home in Blk 361, Yung An Road. There will be others following me down on that day just to pay him a visit and also see for themselves who is the person they are donating to.

If there is anyone who wish to contribute, you are most welcome to meet me at the void deck of his block and we can go up together to meet him personally to pass him the money.

Please note that I cannot and will not accept any amount of money from anyone to be passed to me and given to Wandy because I am not representing any registered Charitable Organisation and this is my personal appeal to help a fellow friend and pet hobbyist.

Please feel free to contact me 96918811 or pm me and I'll give you his contact number if you wish to find out more info. I just need to ensure that I know whoever the person who is contacting him, nothing else.

We really hope that Wandy will be blessed with health and his sickness will not get worse.

Best regards to all.......
