Blue Pacific Parrotlet laid eggs!

Saw them mating for one whole week early this month and ever since then, the female have been hiding in her nest box. While the she is out for food early this evening, I took a peep into the nest box and saw 4 eggs! Hope that this clutch of eggs will be fertile. Anyone have any exp in breeding parrotlets? Heard that they are quite difficult to breed, is it true? Any special care/attendtion that I should take note of?

Wow Elgin,
When did you started to keep this breed? I know how you feel... like a daddy-to-be..waiting in expectation.. hehehee. Now, I may not have any experience with parrot breeding but I've bred plenty of Canaries in my younger days so I know.

Just keep your fingers crossed. If you have conditioned the bird with a proper diet prior to mating chances are better. Providing a bigger cage allowing the birds to fly (excercise) is also important.

I took over this pair from my friend around 2 months ago cos he giving up all his birds and you are right! Feeling is like daddy-to-be! So excited! Can't wait to see chicks, hahaha... Diet and cage you don't have to worry, hahaha... They are all on pellet diet with fresh fruits daily, 1st feeding at 7.30am, 2nd feeding at around 1pm, 3rd feeding at 7.30pm and 4th feeding at 12.30am! They have breakfast, lunch, dinner and even supper. lol! The pair have a huge cage, 18 inch by 18 inch by around 2.5 feet tall. So sure get enough excercise. You can always pop by any weekends to see them if you want...

Congratulation

I think you should start to provide 'breeding' food for the parent...

The way you pamper them, your chances of fertilised eggs is greatly enhanced. If I happen to be around your area will pop by

Ever since I saw them mating I add a table spoon of egg food to their meal everyday. They may look very small, but trust me, they eat like nobody business. 2 times as much as a lovebird, but yet they don't look fat. I wonder where all the food goes...
