Here is my 2 cents worth

There are so many vitamins that you would miss out on if you feed your dog raw food. In my opinion, commercial dog food is better as it would contain all the essential nutrition your dog would need.

Other vitamins missing include:
1) Vit A
2) Vit D
3) Vit E
4) Vit K

hi..balance diet is acheived over a period of time and if u r worry of not supplying enough vitamins and minerals..you can try addin multi Vit...as for vitamin E...you can try feeding EPO (Evening Primrose oil) for skin and coat..if ur dog like fish...you can try to feed ur dog fish once a week will do..it is rich in omega 3 (good on skin and coat too)...cos meat contain more protein and omega 6, it is advisable to feed fish once a week to balance out the omega. Alternately, you can try feeding fish oil (which can be found in pharmacy)...
If you are worry about vit A...you can try cod liver oil but it is not advisable to overfeed cod liver oil...will cause more harm than help...i would suggest reading up books by Ian Billinghurst - Give your dog a bone or kymythy schultze - The Ultimate Diet (simple to read and understand) and it also list out all the vit info. and a simple diet plan too...

Just friendly banter...

Well, i think that it is really troublesome preparing BARF. Also, i found out also that there is risk of bacterial contamination in raw meat diets, especially E. coli and Salmonella which can infect other animals and people, so even though the majority of dogs may not exhibit symptoms, they can none-the-less pass the contamination to other animals or people. Serious outbreaks of these diseases can kill or debilitate children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems. Another problem is that the bones may splinter and cause damage to the dog.

But i must agree that there have been reported cases of dogs with skin problems and low energy etc having great improvements in their conditions after going on BARF. On the hind side, there are many dogs that are doing very well on super premium commercial brands too.

well different ppl have different views ...whether or not is barf troublesome to prepare is up to individual and personally if an owner are willing to change their dog diet for good i'm sure they are willing to make all the trouble in preparing barf for their dogs. Well, i dun find preparing barf is troublesome and as for contamination in raw meats, as long as proper precaution are being practise i dun see why there is a problem...all we need is just to make sure that we use hot water to rinse out utensils to kill off bacteria...and dogs can deal well with bacteria cos that is wat their digestive system are made of. I would like to highlight this, COOK bones splinter
and the results are slow but produce good results...it all dpends on owner which diet are good for their furkids...i did not state that dog wont do well on premium kibbles, is all up to individual owner preferences after all it is their dogs which we are speaking of...
ppl who feed barf, they can see results in reducing of poo and smell and their dogs energy level are much better...well after all, it dpends on what we owner believe in

Thumbs up

Hi Angel,

You might also want to try feeding Addiction's raw dehydrated food as a topper or supplement. It's supposed to be raw food with the moisture taken out. So it's more convenient than actual BARF. My golden simply loves it and i also noticed an improvement to her coat.

been feeding Barf since i had him very young. he has been doing really well. you could also add in herbs like basil, coriander, parsley.

what i add will be minced mutton, mix it well with ground vegetables such as -
parsley, coriander, carrots, pumpkin with seeds and fruits will be apples, kiwi and at times blueberries or other berries that i can get my hand on.
i do alternate the ingredients monthly.

till date he has no skin problems but of late has been quite stubborn to eat. oh well he too got tantrums too.. but other than that i have no probs making his food. i make extra and freeze in small portions.

Angel99 you mite wanna try visit this link for more details, they have thos Barf patties, all ready made.
